Spring is in the Air

There is no more joyous time than spring. A season of optimism and abundance, it means lighter, brighter days and the return of some much-needed sunshine, here's your guide to hosting over the Easter weekend...

Happy Hosting!

As well as embracing all that spring has to offer outside, there’s something about the season which makes entertaining such a pleasure, and the long Easter weekend is the perfect time to kickstart the conviviality. Here are our tips on how to spruce up your space for some spring socialising.

Set The Scene

It’s not just the extra time off that makes Easter particularly joyful but the heralding of spring proper. As well as optimistically eyeing the trees for blossom and the sky for sunshine, it also means fully embracing spring motifs in all their cheering glory. When it comes to laying the perfect spring table, the busier the better, so why not offset your crockery with one of our playful fabrics; we love the fresh outdoorsiness of the Little Check in Moss as well as the delicate detail of the Floral Trail Original

A pretty table always needs fresh flowers and for seasonal spring bouquets,
Real Flowers is a must. We adore the creativity of each arrangement and it’s always a joy to see what flowers, herbs, and foliage have been chosen. To complement the table’s tones, Skye McAlpine’s Scalloped Dinner Plates are about as perfect as they come. The set is available in two watercolour washes of colour, Strawberry Gelato and Custard Yellow. Delicious.

Spring Fresh

Although all eyes may be on the dinner table over the long weekend, there are plenty of little ways to make the rest of your space sing. While style matters, comfort is king so making sure there is seating that your guests can sink into after a big meal is essential. The right cushions can make an ordinary sofa feel special and can have a huge impact on the feel of a room; our large collection has a pattern and shape for every scheme.

A tray is not just a useful vessel for serving nibbles on but a versatile piece to have to hand for all occasions. Our selection of cane trays can be used as elegant storage solutions or even mobile bars if table space is short.

Finally, never underestimate the importance of good lighting. Although the long weekend’s lighter evenings mean candlelight won’t be needed until a little later, the right candleholders and shades are gorgeous table accessories in their own right. Factor them into your tablescape during the day and then when dusk does start to fall, a mere flicker of a flame is all that’s needed to segue into an ambient evening.

The Big Feast

Whether you're welcoming a host of house guests or are enjoying a simple lunch at home, roast lamb is always a fantastic centrepiece for an Easter table. Diana Henry can do no wrong and this recipe really does turn one dish into an absolute feast, so do give it a go. If you've only ever eten shop-bought hot cross buns, then you must try baking your own. Although let's face it, sticky, sweet buns of any kind are always a winnet, there's nothing quite like eating homemade buns, hot out the oven and glistening with butter. The process itself isn't complicated but it does require a little time and patience which is why a long, languid Easter weekend is the perfect time to try it.
