Our Ultimate Travel Tips

Having an international client base means we’re well versed in how to travel in style. Whether you’re planning a staycation or venturing further afield this spring, there are a few non-negotiables when it comes to packing requirements. Here‘s what we can’t travel without.

Up, Up and Away

Before you even think about packing, a proper piece of luggage is an absolute essential. Often overlooked but not to be underestimated, a good suitcase will last for years and make packing a pleasure rather than a chore. We’ve not found any as lightweight, chic or durable as Away's collection of bags, plus the option to personalise and add an in-built USB is hard to resist. When it comes to carry-on essentials, style and substance meet in the form of Neom's Energising Hand Balm a non-greasy balm that keeps dry, over washed hands soft and supple. The zesty rosemary, grapefruit and lemon fragrance also acts as a space sanitiser as it cuts through any stale cabin air.

If you’re partial to a nap mid-air, we love Desmond & Dempsey’s range of printed eye masks which are as generously cut as they are pretty, leaving no room for light to peek through and disturb your slumber. Whether you’re travelling by plane, train or automobile, travelling in comfort is a must. Our Great Check Rectngle Cushion turns any space into a cosy nook and means you can say goodbye to squirming uncomfortably in your seat for hours on end. Better still spray it with your favourite linen mist or fragrance and take the familiar scent of home with you wherever you go.

Delays to your schedule are bad enough, but delays when you are without good reading material or something to listen to are a disaster. Ensure you have every eventuality covered by downloading a good podcast series before you travel, so you always have something entertaining on hand. Table Manners with Jessie and Lennie Ware covers food and family and everything in between and is nothing short of a joy to listen to, which means it helps while away the hours with ease.

While we’ll always advocate packing a good novel, sometimes a feast for the eyes is just the thing to encourage a little escapism. A new favourite find is SJ Axelby's Interior Portraits, a beautiful hardback that’s packed with the artist’s depiction of the homes of 89 creatives including those from the worlds of design, food, floral and antiques. Totally joyful and a veritable visual cornucopia, it also makes a great gift.

Talking of gifts, if your travels involve staying with friends or family, it pays to be prepared. A well-thought-out present for your host will always be gratefully received and, call us biased, but we can’t think of anything nicer than a pair of our glossy, jewel-toned candle holders. Keep it classic with a matching duo or opt for a playful combination of styles. Failing that, our Check Mats are a universally beloved choice. Bold, stylish and highly durable, they work just as well in the bathroom of a small apartment space as they do either side of the bed in a larger guest room. With four colours to choose from it’s easy to find one to complement your host’s interiors scheme.
